US armour brings heavy direct fire to Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, and the M48 Patton was the American main battle tank of the era — the natural fit for the role. On open and semi-open maps it’s a strongpoint-breaker: the answer to a defended treeline, a bunker, or an urban building the infantry can’t crack alone.
But Vietnam’s terrain is unkind to tanks. Jungle, paddies and villages bring the enemy in close, where an RPG team can ambush from cover and a tank loses the standoff range that keeps it safe. Armour here works with infantry, never alone.
