Ia Drang Valley

Jungle valley

An Ia Drang–style jungle valley map for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — open elephant grass ringed by forested ridges and contested landing zones. Expected terrain and tactics.

Whoever owns the LZ owns the valley.

The Battle of Ia Drang in 1965 was the first large-scale, air-mobile clash of the war between US and NVA regulars — and it is exactly the kind of engagement Hell Let Loose: Vietnam’s helicopter systems are built to recreate. While the developers haven’t confirmed an Ia Drang map by name, it is a natural fit, so we profile it here as rumored and will update if it’s announced.

What an Ia Drang map would mean

Expect a wide jungle valley of tall elephant grass framed by forested ridges, with contested landing zones as the focal points. It’s the ideal stage for the US air-mobile playstyle and the NVA’s prepared defence to collide.

  • Attacking (US): the LZ is everything. Securing a landing zone lets you pour squads into the valley; losing it strands them. Use helicopters aggressively but protect them.
  • Defending (NVA): the ridges and the grass are your friends. Ring the likely LZs, fight from the high ground, and use tunnels to shift fast when the assault commits.

This entry is speculative based on the war’s history and the game’s systems, not a confirmed map. See the maps guide for what’s actually been shown.
