RPD

The RPD is the North Vietnamese light machine gun — the communist answer to the American M60. It’s lighter and more portable than a heavy gun, which fits the NVA and Viet Cong way of fighting: move into position, unleash suppressing fire to spring an ambush or break an assault, then displace before the enemy can fix and flank you.

Its role is the same as any machine gun — pin the enemy so your riflemen can move — but its mobility makes it a better partner for the hit-and-fade game North Vietnam plays.
