Hell Let Loose: Vietnam — Everything We Know
Release date, platforms, factions, maps, helicopters, tunnels, weapons and gameplay — the complete, up-to-date overview of Hell Let Loose: Vietnam from Team17 and Expression Games.
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is a standalone entry in the acclaimed tactical-shooter series, taking the franchise’s huge, communication-driven 50v50 battles out of World War II Europe and into the Vietnam War of 1965–1973. Developed by Expression Games and published by Team17, it’s built from the ground up on Unreal Engine 5. Here’s everything that’s confirmed so far.
Release date and platforms
The game launches August 13, 2026, after being pushed back from an earlier June 18 date in response to beta feedback. It’s coming to PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and the Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Note that there’s no crossplay between PC and console at launch. For the full breakdown, see our release date guide.
What kind of game it is
If you’ve played the original Hell Let Loose, the DNA is familiar: massive first-person battles won through teamwork, roles, command and supply rather than individual kills. Vietnam keeps that strategy-meets-shooter identity and rebuilds it for a very different war.
The two sides
The conflict is fought between the United States Armed Forces and the North Vietnamese — the regular NVA backed by Viet Cong irregulars. Crucially, the two sides play asymmetrically:
- US: air mobility and firepower, headlined by operational helicopters.
- North Vietnam: concealment and ground knowledge, headlined by tunnel networks.
New systems
Vietnam introduces mechanics the series has never had:
- Helicopters — US forces fly UH-1 Hueys to insert and move troops.
- Tunnels — the NVA and VC move unseen through tunnel networks.
- Riverine combat — heavily armed patrol boats fight for the rivers and deltas.
Maps and weapons
There are six maps at launch, spanning jungle, rice paddies, beaches, hills and river networks, inspired by real operations such as Starlite and Piranha. The arsenal recreates era-accurate 1960s weapons, scanned and recorded with the UK’s Royal Armouries Museum — browse it in the weapons codex.
The bottom line
Hell Let Loose: Vietnam isn’t a reskin. It keeps what made the series special — authentic, large-scale, team-first warfare — and reinvents it around a conflict defined by asymmetry: the side that flies against the side that hides. We’ll keep this guide updated as launch approaches.
